here's #netbsd 's. #ksh #kornshell #cvsweb

#netbsd #ksh #kornshell #cvsweb
Which also means #NetBSD ksh is not the same as #OpenBSD ksh, since the .profile under NetBSD contains:
export EDITOR=vi
export VISUAL=${EDITOR}
Plot twist: it seems both use (Public Domain) ksh 5.2.14.... 🤔
Is it possible to avoid the issue on #OpenBSD by using the NetBSD configuration? I'll try that later...
"I now understand why I'm not – and will never be – rich. My (...) employer complained about my preference for stable and reliable solutions, equating it with lesser profits. According to him, unstable solutions requiring frequent maintenance meant more revenue. To me, a job is well-done when it works consistently, not when it demands constant fixes."
@stefano 's lesson in professional honesty, explaining how he armed in 2 days a #NetBSD server which has a 9 yrs uptime:

If I want to do some simple setup tasks for #NetBSD machines (install packages, add a user, etc.), should I just write a shell script to do that? Or use puppet? Or something else? What do folks use?

I built a new #NetBSD 10.0_BETA today for my Pine64 #RockPro64. Don't forget to add the cooling fan to ./src/sys/arch/arm/dts/rk3399-rockpro64.dts file starting at line 113:
fan: pwm-fan {
cooling-levels = <0 100 150 200 255>;
};
Use build.sh to regenerate ./obj/destdir.evbarm/boot/dtb/rockchip:
./build.sh -U -u -j4 -O ../obj -m evbarm -a aarch64 kernel=GENERIC64 dtb
Copy new ./rockchip/rk3399-rockpro64.dts your device's /boot/rockchip/.
Enjoy!
@stefano Are you sure about that?
I run a #NetBSD VM in #bhyve with #UEFI and so far I haven't had any issues.
And both the NetBSD and the FreeBSD wiki mention that it works:

Oh, I didn't catch the RAM size the first time around. Wow!
I wonder what OS the 16MB version is intended to run. You could probably squeeze #NetBSD onto it.
Friends of #BSDCafe and #Fediverse, tomorrow will be another busy day and I won't be able to accomplish many of the things I'd like. Over the weekend, I'm planning to run installation tests of different BSDs on the old MacBook Pro (still tucked away). I'll also give Xen another shot on #FreeBSD and #NetBSD. Planning some comparative tests with #bhyve. I have a few #xcp-ng setups that have proven quite reliable. Time to give it another go on the BSDs.

@vermaden I have previously used ZFS with 512 MB of RAM without encountering significant issues - though it was a bit slow, the performance was acceptable.
However, this time around, I'll be working with an old Alix system that only has 256 MB of RAM. Despite its limited memory capacity and the client's insistence on using it, I'll need to proceed with this hardware choice. Since the Alix system utilizes the i386 architecture, I'm inclined to opt for a more lightweight operating system. #DragonflyBSD is exclusively available for amd64 architecture, which eliminates it as a viable option.
Considering these factors, I am contemplating the use of #NetBSD for this setup
Friends of #BSDCafe and #Fediverse, today has been a day full of emotions.
I drove for hours in heavy rain, there have been joys and pains, excitement and sadness, as well as a couple of Windows VMs that decided to freeze just while I was in the rain but I managed to brutally restart them.
Tomorrow morning, I'll need to set up a small file server and I'm considering which #BSD to use. I won't have many resources, so #ZFS is out of the options. I'll weigh between #NetBSD - the cooler night will hopefully bring me clarity.

#NetBSD 10 - tentatively scheduled for "Early October".
