I only started hosting my own stuff because Media Temple was hacked three times and lost the backups, and Site5 kicked me out for too much traffic, and by that time NginX was starting to take off, while I was learning Linux, and by looking at I could see it was a good decision, to save memory, etc. Generally I'm not an early adopter. Regarding PHP, I'm gradually getting into Golang. Trying to see myself more as a business person, not a developer.
