Nether say Never pt 3/3
Around 2010 I also discovered another type of music, online videogame raps. These were highschoolers who wanted to rap about their favourite videogames and upload them on YouTube. Many of them still do it to this day and many of them are very popular. However, the key difference between them and Nether was that the teenagers on YouTube were just that, teenagers. They were just having fun and wasn’t trying to start a career.
Starting a music carrer as an indie artist back in 2010 was and still is very difficult. You can go to all of the gigs you can manage, make the best songs in the world but none of that matters if the right people don’t hear your song. YouTube and the internet in general was still fairly new and I can understand why creating an online presence wasn’t at the top of your to do list.
Nowadays thanks to Spotify and other online platfourms, it’s at least easier to get your music around the world, but getting anyone to hear it. Some might say it’s even harder. Unless you have connections, getting into the music indiestry on pure talent is nearly impossible, so what can you do? Well, even if making it big is impossible, it doesn’t mean you’ll never get a fan.
In the begging of my story I mentioned I found a CD at my highschool. When asked about the CD and even showed a picture they responded that it wasn’t one of theirs. Which meant, someone around my local area heard them, burned their songs to a CD, lost it and I found it and have been enjoying their music ever since becoming a fan of a ghost band.
That’s the takeaway from this story, if you want to do something, even if you don’t succed in the way you’re hoping for. Someone, who you might never meet might find it, and think it is the best thing ever because to me, their music was one of the best I ever heard and I often tried to mimic it when I was creating my own songs in high school.
Nether say Never pt 1/3
When I was in high school, around 2010-2013 I came across a CD with some songs on it. I liked the music, but had no idea who these people were and I spent the next ten years of my life trying to find them. I gave up hope, nothing I did work. That was until February 20th, 2023 when @peturdainn was able to find them. At long last one of my personal mysteries were solved, but who was this mysterious band? Well...let me tell you about the band Nether.
Nether was formed around 2009 in the United States of America in the state of Washington and seemed to stop around 2016. They have a YouTube channel where you can currently listen to all of their songs and a website where the only thing that works is their ‘contact us’ section.
For their YouTube channel, they managed to have around 41 subscribers with their top most played video being ‘Nether – Breathed in Silence – End of Sight EP’ with about 709 views. On Facebook, their Facebook page has about 605 followers. So yeah, a very indie band that sadly never made it big.
Now that I know who these people are, I decided to randomly say hello, and someone said hello back.
First of all, I squealed when I received a response. A band member whose music I’ve been listening to on repeat for the past 10 years said hi to me, I was excited and I begin to ask a few questions.
“If I may, what happened to your band?” I asked.
“It may sound cliché but, money, life, and time killed Nether. Lol. By the time we ended, we had gone through over 20 musicians in the band. Guys would come in with the best of intentions to work hard and try to find a career in the music world, but inevitably they would leave because of changes in life. Family, work, living situation would change and they would leave the band.Thankfully we didn't lose anyone over big personality conflicts or fights but still...We didn't make very much progress as a band because of it."
