'Brain-eating' amoeba case in potentially tied to unfiltered water in rinse

If you do sinus rinses or use , always use distilled or sterile water.

The Food and Drug Administration warns that "Tap water isn't safe for use as a nasal rinse because it's not adequately filtered or treated." Tap water should be boiled for at least one minute then cooled.

Do neti pots really work?
Some people say that they do not shirk
But 'tis quite obvious
That they are fabulous
For relieving sinus pain and the lurk

Tap water is not sterile, and using it in home medical devices can result in serious and even deadly infections. But in a study published Wednesday in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases, one-third of respondents to a survey incorrectly answered that tap water does not contain bacteria or other living organisms.

I've long used nasal irrigation - a net pot, specifically - to try to shut down colds or flu. But recently I've started using it proactively after being in situations where my risk of Covid or other viruses exposure was higher. Linked is a study showing an 8-fold decrease in serious consequences when nasal irrigation is used *post-infection*. Anyone know of studies about prevention of Covid getting started in the first place?
