Also, if you have been pathologized with a disorder like or and still have career prospects, have fun finding out how yet another group of randos grouping your diagnosis under the moniker “Cognitive Disability” will play out for you.*

For reference, examples of disorders in the DSM and ICD are

- Alzheimer’s disease
- Parkinson’s disease
- Major neurocognitive disorder (aka Dementia)

* We meant well.

part 2

"A different study in JAMA shows that boys exposed to SARS-CoV-2 infection in utero may be at increased risk for neurodevelopmental disorders, but the same was not found in girls. Baby boys born to mothers with COVID infection in pregnancy had a significant increase of diagnoses at 12 months, even when controlling for preterm delivery."

To paraphrase "Reality can be so inconvenient - let's ignore it and maybe it will go away".

On reading a level textbook about - what concerned me (though didn't surprise me) was what research was actually missing.

The phrase "air pollution" wasn't mentioned once in the whole textbook.

doi.org/10.1016/j.neuint.2019. "Age appears to play a relevant role in air pollution-induced , with growing evidence suggesting that air pollution may contribute to and " - That means air pollution seriously harms 's . Who knew? that inhaling the emitted after burning something could be so dammed harmful? (sarcasm - as I've been writing this #### for decades)

So, what is the psychology that means (too many) psychologists have a habit of not talking about air pollution?

Could it be something quite simple? such as - people don't "like" the idea that their car's exhaust emissions, etc, are hurting their own children's health.

Developmental impact of air pollution on brain function doi.org/10.1016/j.neuint.2019.

Effects of air pollution on the nervous system and its possible role in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders doi.org/10.1016/j.pharmthera.2

As we improve our understanding of the and find new methods for detection of disorders, we will undoubtedly find that there are a lot more people in the world. Not only will the population be rapidly in the coming decades, but we'll likely see a surge in older people with a mental disorder diagnosis (I'm not referring to the natural cognitive decline)... but many will not.

How can we improve the outcomes of undiagnosed older adults?
