On Friday, the #Minnesota Senate passed a #ConversionTherapy ban that excludes #neurominorities, so I’ll probably write a piece explaining why there’s no #QueerLiberation without #NeurodivergentLiberation

In short, I long for #freedom

On July 15, 2021, #Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed an Executive Order restricting #ConversionTherapy, but he never enforced it against people practicing #ABAabuse, the basis of modern conversion therapy.

For two years, I advocated for MSU, #Mankato and the Minnesota DFL Party to #BanABA

Now, on #AutismAcceptanceMonth, the Minnesota Senate has passed SF 23, a conversion therapy ban that excludes #ABA

To #ActuallyAutistic and otherwise #Neurodivergent people who’ve survived #HumanRightsViolations, know that you didn’t deserve any of that awful shit.

The enforcers of #neuronormativity are inhuman, not you.

To reiterate, the path to #NeurodivergentLiberation is through #socialism

Linear forms of communication are incompatible with #Autistic people's explosive subjective experience.

But as @alfiekohn wrote, "Behaviorists ignore, or actively dismiss, subjective experience," making them incapable of understanding Autistics, or anybody for that matter.

Even psychology (behaviorism is anti-psychology), as C. Wright Mills explained, "arbitrarily divorces the individual life from the larger institutions within which that life is enacted, and which on occasion bear upon it more grievously than do the intimate environments of childhood."

(#PluralGang, of which many Autistics are members, consists of multiple lives in single bodies.)

Indeed, as Janine Booth articulated, "Capitalism rapidly intensified the sensory environment, generating much more light and noise than previous societies, particularly in big cities."

Thus, #AutismAcceptance, while necessary, is insufficient.

When I founded the #Neurodiversity Activists at #Minnesota State University, #Mankato, I sought to implement #cooperative principles to ensure emotional safety and #conscientization the latter of which entails ruffling some feathers at the University. That didn’t happen, so I left. #NeurodivergentLiberation

Old ABA: If you don’t behave the way we want you to, we’ll hate (hit) you.

New ABA: If you do behave the way we want you to, we’ll love (hug) you.

Both approaches are inherently coercive; the former is control through punishment, and the latter is what Edward Deci and Richard Ryan dubbed “control through seduction.”

@biomimic Last Wednesday, a state senator from the #Minnesota DFL Party visited the MNSU Student Government and told us on camera that he’s a capitalist. While, yes, I’ve had some success meeting with Democrats to advocate for the abolition of #behaviorism and support of worker-owned cooperatives, ultimately, there is no #NeurodivergentLiberation under #capitalism. There is, however, some variation within the DFL. Hopefully, some of the newly-elected representatives put their lived experience in marginalized communities to good use and follow through on their apparent commitment to support social movements. I’m looking forward to working with a couple politicians I’ve developed a rapport with over the last several months and pushing for policies to recognize #neurodiversity and civil rights for #neurodivergent citizens, among other things. #Solidarity
