Anyone have any experience with either Mendi or Muse 2 or Muse Sleep for -
- anxiety
- focus, ADHD

- sleep quality
Any side effects? Could either worsen fatigue?
Did it help? Was it worth the price tag

Training awareness of mind wandering with neurofeedback. 🧠💻
Striking results by Kawashima and colleagues, who show how Pavlovian conditioning, paired with neurofeedback, can be used to train awareness of the moment the mind wanders off. ðŸ’

Neurofeedback @ my practicum: My colleague is educating the staff abt diverse hair types. They literally told a Black teen to take her braids out for Neurofeedback. When my colleague asked how she felt: "sad & uncomfortable." 🤞 they listen to lowly interns & do preventative care (she's depressed & suicidal) Make this more inclusive. Teens, need to give consent! Don't tell them what to do w/their own damn hair!

Last week we had the honor of welcoming an external guest at our "Dinner Meeting": Dr. Silvia Kober (@UniGraz, https://researchgate.net/profile/Silvia-Kober) gave a talk about the possibilities & limitations of #neurofeedback. 🧠📊 A great discussion with many questions followed.
#3GoodThings @3goodthings 1) It was a good Valentine’s Day for the first time in over a decade largely because I finally did not freak for a month in advance out over all the (self-initiated/perpetuating) ways I was messing it up. 2) My daughter says she likes learning Aikido from me and the time together. 3) Unexpected and strong but brief & fun rain showers yesterday afternoon. (#CPTSD #EMDR and #neurofeedback - life is better every day than I thought I deserved.)

@nealr It’s a cool read out if you’re doing research (although I’ve heard from some who question the Muse’s accuracy, given electrode placement). However, I do wish there were ways to set reward parameters for some level of #neurofeedback training.
Fresh from the press is this #clinical #neuroscience paper from a colleague: https://authors.elsevier.com/c/1gFfd7tDiDftrK
We showed that in severely impaired #stroke survivors, fronto-parietal integration in the alpha-band predicts the magnitude of beta-ERD during a motor imagery based #neurofeedback task.

Here another fMRI #neurofeedback study, even more perplexing: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28917059/. "Participants were blind to the purpose of the study, as well as to the mechanism of the neurofeedback, and even to the fact that it was neurofeedback."
To me this looks like they trained a person's brain as if it was a DNN, a mere machine, and it worked. My concern with all this is how it may undermine the very idea of #ethics by destroying the idea of "free" decision (my "Kantian angst").
Theta band EEG neurofeedback training enhances flow state.
Interesting as we've had very different results for EEG and flow on a creative task recently. How task specific are these results? Important to ask as we work towards usable brain computer interactions.

Hi all, I’m a researcher working on brain-computer interfaces at Snap Inc.
My goal is to prove that noninvasive #BCI and #neurofeedback can provide value outside of the lab.
Currently for me that includes (but does not limit to) applying #deeplearning methods to #timeseries data like #EEG, but also other sensors like #eyetracking or #inertial sensors (#IMUs)

Also a #python geek. I maintain an M/EEG analysis toolbox: https://github.com/nbara/python-meegkit

#neuroscience experts, what's your take on #neurofeedback? This is out of my scope of research, and what I've got from looking at the literature is that it's been studied for a long time, but RCTs still come up with mixed findings, although an important factor could be lack of standardization across trials. And that it could a useful perturbation strategy in studying complex networks and network control.
In any case, as it stands now, it seems to me to be somewhat far from having applicability outside of the lab. But then I look at all the companies that are pushing it as a form of treatment for all sorts of neuropsychiatric issues and I'm wondering whether I'm missing something or it's just a classic case of neurobabble.
The next step for #PsyLink will be adding #machinelearning-generated #neurofeedback:
https://psylink.me/blog/neurofeedback-idea/
Instead of training only the #AI, the aim is to train the nervous system of the user as well. Both sides will meet halfway, each of them optimally adapted for the other. #neuralinterface #neuroscience
Any comments and suggestions are very much appreciated, so I don't go down the wrong road for nothing :)
