I don’t think ‘complex’ is the right word, but still interesting to read - Bilingual brain activity changes with complex languages popsci.com/science/bilingual-b @linguistics @academicchatter

Does anyone know of studies that show (or suggest) that processing in is being influenced by properties of a second language (L2)? I am looking for evidence on online processing, not just structural ; e.g., something like the parsing of subject vs object relative clauses in L1 being influenced by L2 (this is just a made-up example).

"Linguists, logicians, and philosophers, for at least the first half of the 20th century, resisted the idea that language is in the brain. If it is anywhere at all, they estimated, it is out there, in the community of speakers. For neurologists such as Paul Broca and Carl Wernicke, active in the second half of the 19th century, the answer was different."

Our TMS-EEG study is now out🎉! We show that over 's area does not interfere with 🧠, and we suggest a role of this region in bottom-up syntactic operations.

Big thanks to all the co-authors for the great team effort✨!

The first paper from my PhD is now published and 🎉 ! We cover the literature on the neuro-cognitive aspects of basic syntactic composition, from the early 80s to nowadays📜!

Many thanks for the supervision and support to Angela D. Friederici and Emiliano Zaccarella

“Linguists, logicians, and philosophers, for at least the first half of the 20th century, resisted the idea that language is in the brain.

It took an entire century — from around 1860 to 1960 — for the ideas that language is in the brain and that language is a calculus to meet, for neurology and linguistics to blend into neurolinguistics.”

‘The language-as-calculus idea may well be the best model of language in the brain we currently have — or perhaps the worst, except for all the others.’ @mitpress

Words matter. They can nurture or harm us.

My wife is a & I am a , so we often discuss all apects of language. A concept from has always haunted me. When we use a word, it creates a neuropathway. We're then more likely to use that word over an alternative, because we follow paths previously followed.

Over time these can create mental ruts. So we must build these roads more consciously.

Stop poisoning yourself and start nurturing yourself. Retrain your brain.
