since #mastodon is a decentralized system, is it possible to aggregate different accounts in one unified view?

For instance, if we foresee that universities will soon deploy their own servers such that you will get an institutional account, yet I will certainly NOT want to abandon my #neuromatch one...

@lili a mix of 2 and 3 with 1 if 1 includes the joy of figuring things out :) but tbh the way most of academia does research did not turn out to be inherently satisfying for me. it can be sooo much more fun if we remove the power-structures and their abuse, and democratize science. which is why I volunteer for @neuromatch #neuromatch and am working towards #AcademicReform and #ScientificReform.

more recently (for the past 1-2 yrs), I have also been inspired by the likes of Adam Aron (not on masto yet? https://aronlab.org/) and @anneurai to work towards #sustainability and address the #climate crisis. I wanna start posting about that work soon but am still overcoming my #SocialAnxiety of being on social media as a scientist. The vibe here is definitely more positive for me so far, so that's helping :)

I am a junior researcher in developmental neuroscience and child & adolescent psychiatry with a background in medicine. Currently, I am PhD student at the Max Planck School of Cognition, supervised by Simon Eickhoff and Juergen Dukart at Jülich Research Centre.

​In general, I am interested in multimodal data acquisition and integrative data analysis approaches to understand how processes on different biological levels (e.g., behavior, brain metabolism, brain structure, genetics) lead to what we consider psychiatric disorders. Right now, I focus on how cortical distributions of neurotransmitter receptors, cell populations, and brain metabolism relate to (a)typical cortex development.

Why neuroenergetics is 🤙 brain stuff?

In my lab, we study the #neuroenergetics of the human connectome with multiscale brain imaging.

We have so many unsolved questions 😳:
How is energy distributed across the cortex and spent on higher cognitive functions? What are most expensive signaling pathways and mechanisms?

My lab is split between FAU and TUM (two best ranked German universities in case u didn‘t know yet 😅) and we use the following neuroimaging methods:

- functional and quantitative imaging on 7T MRI at FAU
- quantitative, molecular imaging on an integrated PET/MRI-scanner at TUM

The group at TUM is funded by an ERC-grant and i will start a new lab as Full Professor for multiscale neuroimaging at FAU in 2023.

#introduction

I'm a computational neuroscientist (#Neuroscience #CompNeuro) and science reformer based at Imperial College London.

I like to build things and organisations that make it easier to do better #science.

I made the Brian spiking neural network simulator (https://briansimulator.org) with @romainbrette and @mstimberg.

I co-founded #Neuromatch with @kordinglab and a bunch of others, and the SNUFA community with @fzenke.

In my main research, I'm interested in how the brain uses spikes to carry out computations, and what advantages that might have. Increasingly, my work revolves around using methods from #MachineLearning because that finally lets us build models that actually require intelligence, the unique property of the brain I'm interested in.

I also want to make science better. Neuromatch's mission is to democratise science, and with our new open #publishing initiative (https://nmop.io) I'm hoping we'll be able to dramatically change the murky world of academic publishing.

You might (ha!) also see some political commentary from me. I'm a left-wing #anarchist.

It's been fun watching the #neuromatch.social #mastodon network grow. Here's a plot I threw together of my 2-hop ego-graph (red nodes are on NM.S, grey are elsewhere) and our toots-per-hour surges over the past few days!

I feel like there's common ground between this perspective and an OpenReview model (which, like @Neurograce and #Neuromatch https://nmop.io , I'd love to see become common practice in #CogSci and #neuroscience). But I'm not sure where/how/if traditional journals fit into it.
