@ar_collins Last thing first, I guess you'll find out who you are here by what you post and comment, responses, and who you follow.
#MastodonHelp, #FediHelp #NewbieHelp are handy hashtags to use / check using the # search option.
Note the use of camel-case (capitalizing each word within a hashtag ) - that helps those who need to use a screen reader. A related matter: there is a description edit "alt" for images, where you can add a description of the photo or whatever so screen readers can say what the image is.
https://mstdn.social/@feditips and their website https://fedi.tips/ have a lot of useful info on the technical side. The website has a good quick guide, which I found easy to navigate.

It is strange that my mastodon-via-browser screen shows some attachments as a pale rectangle with "not available" in the middle, but when I click on them they do open in a new tab.
So, if it says "not available" it may be mistaken!

@BathysphereHat To find interesting people, I just drop in on the local and global feeds, and when someone says something interesting I check out their other posts. You can check hashtags for things you find "cool" - start with anything you think might be used, but also watch for the ones others use.
An example of hashtag use: to ask for advice, use these; to see what others already have asked, and maybe some answers, click the hash icon to search for them.

@cris8bit
Hi, welcome!
I got introduced to https://fedi.tips/ and https://neurodiversity-in.au/@feditips@mstdn.social
People interested in helping are talking about greeting new users on #newbiehelp
An interesting post on that line is https://mastodon.social/@HistoPol/109960697083138864 - hope this helps.
P.S . Oh, in case you miss the link in that post, its numbering continues that of https://masto.ai/@broximar/109797846815697059
@Loukas I found it hard to decide, because there are good arguments for each.
When I started, I did not know about the Fediverse, and some starting elsewhere in the Fediverse may not know about Mastodon. #NewbieHelp would work across the platforms, and can link to hashtags both for the fediverse AND for the specific programs/apps. So as well as MastodonHelp there would be PixelfedHelp and PeertubeHelp etc., with some posts tagged with NewbieHelp as well as the main hashtag.
What we also need is a culture of welcoming newbies - I was welcomed and introduced to @feditips. Being introduced to a helpful hashtag would be good.
@Loukas
I agree with you. There are questions that need to be answered. We have a lot of hashtags already. Dividing in Fediverse an Mastodon will split the info.
#NewbieHelp is like everything.
The hashtag #Caturday delivers 1300 hits a week. So therefore the people need to find hashtags and thats all they need if the want to.
If you touch #Entdecken (explore) you can see toots, tags, news and suggestions. This opens a lot of windows to see thru for Newbees. This will ease finding things.
#newbiehelp #caturday #entdecken
@Loukas I see #FediHelp winning. Nevertheless, I'd go with #NewbieHelp or #MastodonHelp, because I don't think the *proper* newbies know what "Fedi" is. (I didn't quite get the concept when I joined myself.)

Is there a way to migrate instances on Pixelfed like we can on Mastodon?

I want to follow a popular pop culture hashtag - without clogging up my main Home feed with the hashtag’s myriad postings. Is it possible to accomplish this using the Lists functionality? If so, it’s not immediately clear how… Thanks in advance for any clues on doing this with Mastodon.
When somebody I follow replies to a thread, even if I'm not viewing that thread because I don't follow the originator, I want to see the reply. If it's out of context, I can click on that reply and find the rest of the thread. This doesn't seem to happen. I seem to get some replies, but maybe those are boosted separately by people I follow. How is it supposed to work?

So I'm getting discouraged with my ability to accurately size the objects I'm drawing in my drawing class. I always make them bigger than the paper. I hear that's a newbie thing. Any tricks to fixing it?
