I think it's a bit crazy that there are baby slings/carriers out there that cost over £240. And they don't necessarily look hard-wearing either. Like, they're meant to last for several years of a young child's life.

Okay, baby is attempting first nap in her cot bed, in her own room 🤞 Hoping she manages to sleep for her usual first nap length.

We're trying to get her napping there so that we can eventually transition nighttime sleep there too.

As a #NewParent, I spend more time than I would like watching #sesamestreet. The fact that Elmo's World now has a recurring segment where an anthropomorphic smart phone chants "Look it up!" is somewhat wild to me.

In less than my lifetime, the internet has gone from this arcane realm of perceived misinformation, to something we teach kids to properly utilize to expand their own knowledge.

We need more of that, and maybe we wouldn't be on the edge of the internet actually being an arcane realm of actual misinformation.

For the first time in over 4 months of being a #newParent, I got to sleep a full 6 hours last night..!

As a new mum, you constantly hear "take good care of yourself, it's an important part of being able to effectively care for your baby, so never neglect your own well-being".
But at the same time all of your instincts and hormones scream "IS THE BABY OKAY? YOU DON'T NEED AN OWN LIFE, SACRIFICE YOURSELF FOR YOUR BABY!"

"I slept like a baby" has got to be one of the BIGGEST misnomers to ever exist.

Why?

Well, do you in your REM sleep, grunt, cry, flail, gurgle?

No?

Then you sleep more soundly than most babies.

Going to show this screenshot any time I hear a well-meaning idiot tell a #pregnant person “better get some sleep now before the baby gets here!”

Last year I was pregnant. I got tons of “sleep” but spent all night tossing and turning and sweating and being generally miserable.

This year I’m a #newparent and my sleep data looks the same.

The difference is that now, even if I only sleep for 5-6 hours, it’s GOOD sleep. Pregnant people rarely get restorative, productive sleep.

Of all the things I've been told about being a new parent the overwhelming number of strangers poking their noses into my everyday activity was not told to me. We've been told how great it is that I'm so involved. Multiple times this is followed by their own tale of how uninvolved their partner was in the months after birth. This bewilders me since the "absent Black father" is a prevalent stereotype. There's more to absence than just the lack of physical presence.
