I've been re-listening to the #newRustacean podcast and was struck by two nearly-contradictory things:
1) #rust has gotten *so* much simpler/more consistent since the early episodes were recorded (2016). The early episodes discus so many paper cuts and edge cases that we just don't have to deal with anymore.
2) So many things that were "coming soon" in 2016 are still "coming soon" in 2020 (e.g., default impl and built-in benchmarking on stable Rust)
Interesting contrast

I might not be the *best* person to ask, since I haven't yet learned either. The #rust hashtag on here is pretty active, though, and people are very friendly. I've also enjoyed the #newRustacean podcast; it gives a good overview of the language and a good sense for the community/ecosystem.
I know even less about learning #python. I've heard really good things about the book "Automate the Boring Stuff with Python" as a book for non-professional coders to learn it, though.
Ok, I know we've had threads on this before, but can someone please recommend some good #tech/#foss/#linux/#nerd podcasts? I'm pretty much out of my usual list and need to go to the gym tonight.
I like shows with a couple folks batting ideas/news around, like #lateNightLinux, #LinuxActionNews or #techSnap—but one-person 'casts can also be good (I like #newRustacean and #rustySpike (if that one still exists))

A funny thing happened today: I was driving along, listening to the #newRustacean podcast, when—out of nowhere—I heard my name on air.
I got an unexpected shout out because I emailed the host about how awesome the static site generator #gutenberg is (https://www.getgutenberg.io/).
He apparently agreed strongly enough to tell all his listeners to check it out and to thank me for the tip.
Class act, that @chriskrycho@twitter.com
(and his podcast is great too, if you like #rust at all https://newrustacean.com/)
