@radicalaipod @shengokai one main point regarding the #timeline/ #newsfeed and searching on mastodon are #hashtags. So one hint e.g. to get a nice and helpful newsfeed: follow not only people you like, start following specific hashtags. And for your own posts use them as much and helpful as possible.
As soon as I found out what I'm really interested in and what hashtag this suits best, I never got bored or overwhelmed again, even at the beginning without knowing anyone.

this is a BIG deal for me and I'm thriled! i can't afford to quit the #meta platforms (yet)--most of my work opportunities happen there.

Eventually, my goal is to move all my #socialmedia to #mastodon, #wordpress, email and #openweb / #humaneWeb platforms that are more in line with my values. until that happens, i'm grateful to have a little more control of what I am forced to see.

As more #journos and their publications make their way over here—and I find myself invariably following them as I did before—I realize the extent to which, over a decade, the birdsite had become for me almost exclusively a #newsfeed, and, because I was focused on consuming news, I rarely engaged with anybody. Yesterday, after picking up here where I'd left off over there, I found myself horribly, horribly unhappy. I don't want to do that anymore. I'd rather return to the #RSS feed reader.
