@President threw out the first pitch at the Astros game after #NFB23 with many members supporting from the stands. Blindness can be a real curveball for some, but blind people are an essential part of the team. This year's National Convention was another homerun. So, just attended one of the after-events for #NFB23 and. um, I was…the only one there…
I do honestly notice that NFB has done a rather meager job promoting the events after convention and I can’t even find them anymore on the schedule on the app.
The event was informative, but…a bit awkward…
@robbiec12345 give them a call and ask, #nfb23. Your toot reminded me to do this.
@robbiec12345 I received points, and the nights, but I don't think they counted towards elite status, because I should have upgraded to gold after that stay but I'm still silver. #nfb23

@DerryLawlor @brianhartgen @lulu_bear Very awesome. Just before #NFB23 Convention I got my first Olympus recorder. It is a WS852. It does not have speech but for my first recorder it is pretty cool. Since I started college several years ago I have just been recording on a Victor reader that is screaming at me that it's dying now, or my iPhone/iPad. I was ready for an upgrade.
#NFB23 I had the honor of representing the national Federation of the blind and throwing out the first pitch at the Houston Astros versus Seattle Mariners game on July 7. It was a lot of fun and it was great to have members from all across the country present for the game. The Mariners won 10 to 1 and it was a beautiful evening and great way to cap off an outstanding convention.
I literally got home from #NFB23, unpacked the laundry, setup the tech, fixed a few things, then an hour or so later crashed. I don't know if it was the time of the morning or end of shift or if it was in the water? but airport staff in terminals C and E at IAH were absolutely atrotious this morning, everything from talking to the *person* behind us, and not to me or @ablade, to specifically ignoring me at check in when I asked if it was possible to have our seats moved to accomidate the dog better because it was a full flight and the dog on the isle is a bad idea in principle, to TSA agents, attempting to separate me from my white cane, and ordering @ablade to remove her guide's gear, not asking, but *ordering*, note she didn't comply, to being told by our assistance person well I can't walk you guys to your gate in terminal E, you have to ride the cart, because my supervisor says so, I corrected her on that in a matter of seconds, and she ended up walking us, grudgingly to our gate, then left us standing next to another assistance agent, who was a lot more polite and nice, by the way and actually helped us get on that delayed flight, and said she'd be speaking to her supervisor, because agents shouldn't just piece out on their assistance passengers, to the gate agent, *refusing* to move asia to the middle or window seat, because oh the dog's fine and under the seat, even though we both explained that people have to get into and out this row, and the dog has more potential of getting stepped on with passengers going in and out of the row, but she wouldn't listen. Finally , the flight attendant asked the other two passengers in Asia's row and both of them were like, you know what, put her by the window, him next to her, and call it done, we don't understand why the gate agent is being such a moronic human. Let's load and fly! I slept the flight, and my driver met me at the gate, and well that, is me getting home!
Back in Ohio after a fun time in texas for #nfb23 will see about attending next year
Folks, anyone know how long the sponsors and exhibitors are going to remain on the #NFB23 app after convention? I simply haven’t had the time to check out those I want to check out yet.
well, that's a wrap for #nfb23 for me, it was a pleasure catching up with friends old and knew. I depart for the airport in just under an hour, If we connected, and didn't exchange contact info, reach out and we'll sort it out, as some of you I literally shook your hand in n elivator or running past you, to or from a session, or in the imfamous starbucks line. Will you see me at #nfb24 in Orlando? Only time will tell! But houston it was fun, Cleveland, where home is, see you in a few hours, Dallas, I'll see you in 11 days!
Excellent speech. I listen to it this morning. #NFB23. https://tweesecake.social/@JonathanMosen/110669225851904595
Headed home after a fun, busy and productive NFB 2023 Convention. Lots of networking, great discussion, and learning was had. Thanks to all of the presenters, fellow attendees, and hotel staff for a great time! #NFB23
So, it’s my feeling that DIE this year has meant anyone except Christians during the invocation. To me, diversity means everyone. Our omission seems quite deliberate #NFB23
Shout out to @KrystalGuillory for receiving the 2023 Distinguished Educator of a Blind Students at #NFB23. We are so proud of you and all you do to support the blindness community.
