I've been listening to #NilayPatel's interview with #ChrisBest about #Substack and #SubstackNotes.

I feel like the #moderation discussion starting at about 42 minutes (listen to Nilay's introductory comments for context) makes a really good argument NOT to use a centralised social service.

I added a trimmed audio clip to this post.

People who may switch to #SubstackNotes from #Twitter (hypothetically), are just exchanging one nightmare for another potential problem space.

At least with a federated network, you can make your own choices and not have to suffer through someone else's moderation choices.

@lmorchard Now, maybe #Substack, with #SubstackNotes, wants free speech without the bad press the #MSM pours onto free speech platforms. But if this is the case, it was a boneheaded move to go on a podcast hosted by #NilayPatel, one of the members of #TheVerge and their adjacent friends who are #Twitter-addicted censorship fans.

That #nilaypatel #substack interview was the worst corporate *thing* I have ever seen (that doesn't involve, you know, child labor in developing nations and whatnot).

It's super-weird to see a guy so simultaneously (a) dumb and (b) unaware of how dumb he is. I'd call him Dollar Tree Elon but I genuinely don't want to insult people who shop at Dollar Tree.
