@pmidden The other posts point out some great solutions, but you might want to consider a #NixUserRepository (https://github.com/nix-community/NUR), though it might be overkill.

It makes packaging extremely easy; I'm not a full #NixOS user, but I use #Nixpkgs (and I maintain a '#NixUserRepository' for some niche software in a community I'm part of) along with #HomeManager for automatically installing tools I use on a daily basis and for managing certain aspects of my dotfiles.

NixOS seems like it could be worth it for ensuring all of your system tweaks are carried over when you reinstall. I haven't had the time to set up NixOS yet, but I will soon.™
