The Yiddish word Keinehora means to ward off the evil eye but is used like the expression knock on wood.

Yesterday was the birthday of a VERY nice Jewish girl (NJG), writer E.L. Konigsburg.

She won the prestigious Newbery Award for "From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler," Almost thirty years later, in 1997, Konigsburg won a second Newbery for her novel, "The View from Saturday."

And she was my mom's cousin (by marriage)! She died almost 10 years ago.

Anyone else love her books?
