It’s more conventional than her later stuff, which is crazy and sublimely imaginative. This early book has family secrets and romance with a dark and dangerous superman, so normal fantasy stuff. But it’s wonderful and I can’t (won’t) wait to get to the next one. #NKJemisin #books #bookstodon

But then I opened up #GeetanjaliShree's Tomb of Sand (found via toots of translator @shreedaisy) and was immediately hooked by the first page, so I guess my #NowReading is decided! Already getting a somewhat similar feeling as when I read #OlgaTokarczuk's The Books of Jacob, one of my top books of 2022. #bookstodon

The characters pull you through the story. Some scenes made me think, This is Toni Morrison on sci-fi. (Then remembered the great Octavia Butler.)
