While we are talking about that, I have a theoretical technical question : outside of brand accounts posting ads, could Mastodon servers run interspersed ads like other social network, on community or even user home timelines ?

@palafo interview with the creator of Post, Noam Bardin on Kara Swisher's podcast Pivot suggests they plan to do a thing called 'micro payments' in the future. For example, a user could pay to read a paywalled article on the Washington Post rather than a full subscription to the paper.
