This video of the traditional Japanese art of making Noh masks has popped up in a few places and is well worth watching. A highly talented artisan, Mitsue Nakamura, takes a block of cypress wood and transforms it in into the most beautiful mask imaginable. A true work of art.

Just watched the drama of Tamoe, and after watching with its opulent colours and action and larger than life characters, watching the glacial paced, ritualistic minimalism of Noh is like a whole other world. Like a glass of cold water after a very rich meal.

Very beautiful and stylised. The skill of the actors and singers is amazing.

The oldest of all Noh masks, the Okina (old man) mask withrounded eyebrows & separated chin is different from other noh masks. It has a lower jaw attached to the main mask with a cord. The eyes are open slits, rather than sculpted eyeballs with bored holes for pupils. Okina is said to be a noh play, but not a noh play. It has no storyline. It is a sacred rite in which actors perform divine figures who dance for peace, prosperity, and safety.

C'est intéressant comme la et les attirent différemment les touristes (locaux ou internationaux).
Je me suis baladé aujourd'hui dans le quartier des de la ville, pas mal de monde, même si en soit, il n'y a pas grand chose à voir.
À côté, hier j'ai assisté à une démonstration des étudiants en de la ville, en terme de dépaysement, ça tape fort. Gratuit aussi, mais pas grand monde et principalement des locaux de .
