In the 8th grade I had a civics teacher that told us the word "Nasty" originated from Sir Thomas Nast, a political cartoonist in the 1800s.

He meant well, but like most of what they tried to sell me in school, it just wasn't true.

You know, like the food pyramid, pretty much everything about the war on drugs, pretty much everything about Christopher Columbus, and pretty much everything else that isn't math.

Here’s what I always say, “I have yet to see a peer reviewed research paper that shows positive outcomes from homework for very young children” (most research says it starts being valuable in late elementary school)
