Four Ida Lupino movies are on #TCM in September: one she directed, two she starred in, and one all-star extravaganza.
“Deep Valley” is an obscure gem—hopefully less obscure since a #NoirAlley showing earlier this year.
• The Hitch-Hiker (1953) — Sep 2, 3pm CT
• Hollywood Canteen (1944) — Sep 12, 2pm
• Out of the Fog (1941) — Sep 16, 11am & Sep 17, 9am #NoirAlley
• Deep Valley (1947) — Sep 21, 12:30pm CT

It was wonderful seeing “Deep Valley” (1947) get the attention it deserves with the #NoirAlley showing this weekend. The last time an Ida Lupino acting role was featured on that program was four years ago!
I hope the next will be much sooner than that. Any chance they could get “Moontide” (1942) or “Road House” (1948)?

More anticipation of #NoirAlley “Deep Valley” (1947)
“More than any other Warners star, Ida is ‘one of the boys’ to the less highly-paid set workers. On the day before Christmas, the crew of ‘Deep Valley’ surprised Ida by unveiling a throne they had erected on the set. With considerable ceremony, they crowned her ‘Queen Ida.’ Naturally, she bawled.”
Despite this column, DV was Lupino’s last Warners film. She did not sign because Jack Warner insisted the new contract be exclusive.

Very cool that TCM’s Noir Alley is showing two excellent but semi-obscure films starring my two favorite actresses, Ginger Rogers and Ida Lupino, on back-to-back weekends: “Storm Warning” (1951) this week and “Deep Valley” (1947) next.

@vegetablegremlin I'm not sure but I think there are little watch parties of some kind. Are there hashtags with these movies? I see #NoirAlley sometimes where people watch old movies together.
I'm aware of a coronation and a horse race. What has me excited for Saturday is the return of #NoirAlley with a #BarbaraStanwyck movie I've never seen.
I was traveling during February. I'm starting to catch up on a month of #NoirAlley. #HangoverSquare was powerful and impressive but sad about real life tragedy with some of the stars.
#NoirAlley on :TCM: The final noir #ClassicMovie before a 2 month hiatus was "Hunt the Man Down". At 76 minutes, it would seem impossible to develop the 10 or so characters in the movie, but they pulled it off. The relationship between the public defender and his one-armed retired cop dad was a particular highlight. They did indeed clear the defendant and hunt the "man" down. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Every actor leans into the spare script with everything they’ve got. So wonderfully directed & acted. More 69 minute movies, please. #HuntTheManDown #NoirAlley
