Feeble Little Horse - Girl With Fish

Noise-pop from Pittsburgh. Multi-tracked, distorted guitar that tips towards shoegaze, because they understand that you have to have a melodic underpinning to make the murk work.

Nice vocal melodies, and a good sense of dynamics, too. Kind of Beths-y sometimes?

Strong recommend if that sounds remotely appealing.

Medicine - “Aruca” (1992)

From this LA-based trio’s album “Shot Forth Self Living”

I was blown away by this huge, ultra-hooky pop sound mixed with distorted guitars and a catchy beat.

They kinda took the late 80s shoegaze sound (MBV, Slowdive, Ride, etc.) and made it more upbeat, almost danceable. It opens with a 9 minute sonic assault that if I were a music critic I’d describe as a searing burst of white noise.

After their 1993 follow up LP, I kinda lost track of the band, although I see they made new albums in 2013 and 2014. I’ll have to check those out.

I’ve accidentally made a very dissonant & noisy (but still very catchy) 80’s synth record.
