Next was an interesting talk by Daricia Wilkinson on online identity risk perception in the #Caribbean at #NokiaBellLabs. These populations are often overlooked in the literature, so an in-depth survey of these experiences was extremely informative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYBGZqQ3P2A (3/9) #privacy #security

Next was an interesting talk by @starkcontrast on the #ethics of #emotion recognition at #NokiaBellLabs. Given all of the work going into this area, considering critical approaches is essential to determine if efforts should be redirected https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iyllj5bOysc (3/9) #AI #AIEthics

Next was a nice talk by Nava Tintarev on incorporating explainable #AI into recommendations for different user types at #NokiaBellLabs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWSoy_rUe9Q (5/9) #XAI
Next was a thorough talk by Sarah Spiekermann on value-based engineering & the #IEEE 7000 std at #NokiaBellLabs. You have to pay money to access this standard, which raises a whole host of ethical issues, however I do like the effort put into developing a systematic approach to integrating ethics into system design. A quick scan of one of the papers introducing this standard also seems to center western moral theories, which certainly needs to be expanded https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goVpshcXniQ (3/6) #ethics
Next was an intriguing talk by @mariadearteaga on worker interactions with #ML prediction systems at #NokiaBellLabs. This is another study of the child welfare department in Allegheny County, which is quickly becoming the go-to dataset for folks studying prediction #algorithms in real organizations https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTS4ATjONfc&t=9s (3/11)

Next was a nice talk by Edward Lee on the nature of deep learning and the meaning of explainable #AI at #NokiaBellLabs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXk82VLdWws (3/9) #XAI
Next was an interesting talk by Shion Guha on algorithmic biases in child welfare systems at #NokiaBellLabs. While the effort is laudable, I'm extremely concerned that stakeholders outside child welfare systems weren't brought into the design process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCxsa3H7GO8 (6/10) #AIEthics #ADM
Next was a thought-provoking talk by Vivek Krishnamurthy on a human rights view on #AI development at #NokiaBellLabs. Taking a human rights perspective in addition to notions of ethics provides a useful legal heft, and this talk goes into detail about what stakeholders should consider when developing and evaluating #algorithms through this lens https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta8Q0pveGto (3/8)

Next was a thoughtful talk by @DrSimoneStumpf on bringing humans into #AI system design at #NokiaBellLabs. Starting from examining the importance of explainable AI, Stumpf then presents some well-designed systems that allow humans to use these explanations to interactively modify the algorithm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymbJ8HCjs3Q (4/7) #HCI
