In Ireland the twelfth day of Christmas is “Women’s Christmas”.

“Though the tradition had been dying out somewhat, in recent years it has enjoyed a revival. These days, alongside a well-deserved break after Christmas, Nollaig na mBan has evolved into a celebration of women, and our contribution to our families, communities, and Irish society.”

In 1639 Johan van Beverwijck published his book "On the Excellence of the Female Sex" which argued for the intellectual abilities of women. The frontispiece featured famed scholar Anna Maria van Schurman. The text included a Dublin woman, Dorothy Moore.

Some Irish musicians I follow just posted good wishes for #NollaignamBan - Women’s #Christmas. In Ireland of yore, the end of the twelve days was marked by a day off for the women who bore the brunt of extra housework during the holidays. The men were expected to pick up the slack for one whole day! 🙄

Also called “Little Christmas” it’s now more often a time for taking down the decorations.🎄

Our #WildGees treat for #NollaignamBan was A Mary Magdalene Experience by artist Grace Dyas at Rua Red in Tallaght. Last in the series, this is completely different to previous Mary Magdalene shows. Each has been an event but this is the first with a sense of place in Tallaght. And it's hilarious! We loved it ❤️ Beautiful performance from Jordanne Jones as Tina / Mary Magdalene. And the lad in the 'audience' wanting to go for chips. Get yourselves to Rua Red (right beside the Luas) by 3 February
