At the usual risk of sounding as imperious as Noele Gordon in the #Nolly series, I had to learn about its existence 2 days ago, by chance, when checking TV programs for today. Hate that you hear nothing about actors here. 😔
Checked what this Nolly thing was bc @Nollie's been known for some years now, then learned Con O'Neill had done a series like that as well. On Twtr following him I'd have heard something at least. 😦
And he is so attractive in it. Again. Or as usual.
Säga vad man vill om #publicService och skatt men det är en kvalitétsskillnad på inköp jämfört med dom andra kanalerna.
#Nolly episode 3. A great conclusion. I still think episode 1 was the best in terms of focus and artistry, but this had a lovely ebb and flow of emotion and unexpectedly made me cry.
Helena Bonham-Carter is mesmerising and Augustus Prew (who sounds like a Roald Dahl character but is in fact an actor) deserves a nod for sterling supporting work.
#Nolly episode 2. Not quite the heights of part 1 but hugely likeable. Helena Bonham-Carter continues to dazzle and Mark Gatiss is great as Larry Grayson.
Nolly's bus journey reminds me irresistibly of Churchill's tube trip in the Gary Oldman movie and is about as subtle.
MAN TROUBLE: It is easy to forget just how big #Crossroads star #NoeleGordon was in the 1970s & 80s. #RussellTDavies & #HelenaBonhamCarter are determined to remind us in the #ITVx series #Nolly. But do they strike the right tone with the three part miniseries?.. https://loveitinpomona.blogspot.com/2023/02/man-trouble-nolly.html #miniseries #britishtv #birmingham #streaming #ITV #midlands #soapopera

Just watched episode 1 of #Nolly, a show I would 100% never have watched without knowing that Russell T Davies was at the helm, but what a finely crafted bit of TV that was.
After listening to interviews with #RussellTDavies and #HelenaBonhamCarter on #BBC6Music recently, I decided to give #Nolly a watch. Was aware of Noele Gordon as a teenager, but never watched Crossroads. That didn’t matter. This was just brilliant storytelling and acting combined.

#Nolly
More pedantry I fear. I was in a local schools production in the late 70s at the Leicester Haymarket Theatre. #Nolly's version isn't at all like the actual stage and auditorium. DEFUND THE ITV!
#Nolly Tony Adams having to set his face as he comes through the door is the telling detail of someone who's been there.
#Nolly Missed opportunity for a line on the Birmingham having more miles of canal than Venice front.

Wasn't persuaded by #Nolly on the bus, sadly. A bit too Darkest Hour Churchill on the tube for me.
Episode 2 offers still more wise Paul Henry/Benny. The effect is oddly Stewart Lee. #Nolly

"Hello, Crossroads Motel!"
I had a wonderful time recording BBC Radio 3's Free Thinking programme with Matthew Sweet, Russell T Davies and Paula Milne. Here's to Nolly!

Tragic pedants like me enjoying #Nolly may wish to know that Noele Gordon's early colour TV tests with Baird date from 1938 (during her period in rep at the Empire Theatre, Penge). Baird had however been doing colour TV demonstrations since 1937. These were 120 line pictures with a reduced frame rate. Noele's account has her treated like royalty by Baird (picked up in a Rolls etc.), she may have been building her part up (imagine), or it may be he did. Baird had an eye for a pretty lady.
