Update: It wasn’t the last ski day of the season. All of the snow in my last post was melted by 11 am. The next night we got even more and better snow, some of the best conditions of the season. Folks in #Fairbanks will likely chuckle at my relatively low discomfort threshold, but -5F (-20C) is too damn cold for recreational #nordicski outing! 🥶 It’s a shame, really, given all of the fresh snow we have in #Anchorage , but I’m declaring a moratorium on elective exposure to the bitter cold - at least until we get above zero. I predict that my little youth skier will rejoice that they won’t have to endure their junior nordic session today…

Yea ... I'm excited for some Talkeetna hospitality at the Oosik this year! For the non-Alaskans out there, the Oosik is a 25/50k Nordic ski "race". This gent was making scratch margaritas for all comers 2k before the finish. The tie-dye snow block bar was a lovely touch.

For those considering a Kincaid outing, here's what I just sent to my Junior Nordic group:

I'm just back from my adventure-drive to Kincaid park. It's skiable out there, but road conditions are super-dicey. The road to the park is down to a lane-and-half, and the bottom of my Subaru Outback was regularly scraping the mound of snow in the middle of the lane. Many main roads are a mess as well. I had to stop and help two different parties unstick their cars.
