interviews 1975
while this clip will never not be funny to watch, it has reminded me of just how common Bex & Vincents APC powders once were:

“a cup of tea, a Bex, and a good lie down” was a popular slogan dismissing (assumed) female weakness, but I often saw blokes sitting in pubs swallowing powder after powder while they drank - in Queensland, not uncommon was the ritual of a Bundy (rum), a Vincents powder and a beer chaser - then another of each in the next round

“the combination of aspirin, phenacetin and caffeine in Bex and Vincent's Powders - these substances were addictive and the massive doses of phenacetin taken by habitual users were causing widespread kidney disease. Eventually, in response to political activism, government controls were put on analgesic products in the 1970s.”

In Victoria, the powders were a quick-turnover item in Milk Bars, before they were withdrawn from the market.
