Just one trunk cut down, on a relatively lightly used path, when so many others are allowed to fall across much more heavily used paths. Very odd. #TodaysWalk #NorseyWood
There's a glade in #NorseyWood that I found the path to, while avoiding the more open paths to keep the dog as cool as possible. The picture was taken from close to the chestnust tree that dominates one end.
Another sign that autumn is approaching, or is already here. There are only a few small chestnuts on the paths now, they will be too small to be of use. I'm expecting a Lot more and a lot larger in a month or so. #TodaysWalk #NorseyWood
A single buddleia stem, topped by a white bloom was the surprise find on #TodaysWalk in #NorseyWood. No butterflies around this one, do the white bloom look unattractive to butterflies?
https://youtu.be/H0zVsxUbbjM. Well, I've done the tree recognition, so on #TodaysWalk, I snapped the only Larch in #NorseyWood.
#TodaysWalk in #NorseyWood was a lead walk, helping us to identify the many different trees. Here are my notes https://3cephas.blogspot.com/2023/08/norsey-wood-tree-identification-walk.html. They are quite incomplete. I very much enjoyed the walk.
The stream, that passes over Root Falls, is now completely dry. Here's what it was like at the end of May: https://mas.to/@FisherPeter/110457014795581898
The dogs found another stream with some muddy water, but I think it is the only one. #Norseywood #TodaysWalk

The green is taking over, quite fast now. This weed has a hundred names, goose grass is my personal favourite, but velcro weed is also very descriptive. #NorseyWood #TodaysWalk look here for more details. https://www.nevadaappeal.com/news/2016/may/23/joanne-skelly-stickywilly-is-a-weed-to-hate/
#NorseyWood is transitioning from predominantly brown to predominantly green. There are some other colours too, mostly blue with a splash of yellow. Four more pictures of the colours taken on #TodaysWalk.
Here are four things that make #NorseyWood colourful at this time of year. There are others, of course, but these were seen today. #TodaysWalk
#NorseyWood is magical, as the bluebells reach their peek. There are just enough wood anemones left to provide a spectacular blue and white on green carpet. #TodaysWalk Visit soon if you can.
It's nothing like #NorseyWood, but there are bluebells in #MillMeadows. They tend to be more spread out and are mainly in the wooded area ear the op of the meadow. #TodaysWalk

#NorseyWood has a blue tinge in every direction as bluebell season gets properly underway. I also spotted a nest high in the trees, it looked more of a platform than a bowl, but I'm not up there to see it properly. #TodaysWalk
In #NorseyWood it is very wet and very muddy, but that is insignificant because the bluebells are starting to bloom. Norsey Wood is one of the best places in the country, to see them. This year, next week is probably the best week. Expect more pictures. #TodaysWalk
The wood anemones are in bloom in #NorseyWood. This picture is from 4 April 2021 in #LaindonCommon woods (there are more there) because I had a camera failure today. These blooms precede the bluebells as each plant takes its time slot in the season. #TodaysWalk

One of the lovely things about #NorseyWood is the wood ant nests. Watching them working away, but never really understanding what they are doing, is fascinating. They are just getting going. Don't get too close or they'll climb you legs and bite you. It's painful. #TodaysWalk
What is this? A fist size almost spherical attachment to a rotting tree trunk. It is placed mainly under the wood, and is clean white. It was found on #TodaysWalk in #NorseyWood.
#NorseyWood #TodaysWalk the streams are flowing freely after some overnight rain. This is a place I call roots falls. I could stay there for ages, but the dogs wanted to move on.
