Yesterday, I joined 200 people to pull a 1804 barn back on its new foundation at part of a restoration project at Historic Northampton. It was tremendously moving to be part of thsi.

This afternoon: European starlings making beautiful turns in the air in an enormous flock right over my head on the way home from Carin's. Filling the limbs of the big old trees across from my apartment with rhythmic, metallic chirrs. An old fashioned dial tone cacophony. So many of them, so loud, in sync.

Cold rain tonight in Northampton, Massachusetts. I went on a trike ride earlier in the afternoon. I saw a guy on the bike path in a Santa suit and a power chair who wished me merry Christmas. I rode around Look Park. It was only three, but it was dark enough that the holiday lights were on. Reindeer. Candles. Stars. A humming bird at a poinsettia. Woodpecker, for some reason. On the way home, an icy pellet of sleet popped into my mouth.

I went to the CVS on Main St to pick up prescriptions I had been notified were ready in the middle of the afternoon today. The pharmacy was closed and no one could tell me when it would be open again. The pharmacist was ill, and they had no sub. I couldn't get my meds. #NorthamptonMA

Joyous. Beautiful. Heartwarming. That all describes this morning's Hot Chocolate Run for Safe Passage, where we raised almost $800K to benefit survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence. Survivors are our friends, family, and neighbors and the Hot Chocolate Run is a great way to make sure they know they do not need to remain silent.
