The journey from the outskirts of to has some amazing views over the countryside.

Sometimes we fail to appreciate what is in our own back yard!

It's about time @MathsJam got started up again.

:kovalevskaya:

If you like maths and, more to the point, meeting other people who like maths in a pub, then is your kind of thing!

Find your nearest one here: mathsjam.com/find-a-jam/

:turing:

If you're in , , or the chances are that is your closest one!

:lovelace:

We'll be trying out some new ones in Milton Keynes to find something that works well. Join us on 18th July at Brewhouse & Kitchen MK for an evening of informal mathsjamming with fellow maths fans, and join the discussion list at freelists.org/list/bletchleyma to continue the conversation & get updates.

:ramanujan:

You can also follow twitter.com/bletchleyjam on Twitter if you're over there too.
I haven't set up an account for Bletchley MathsJam here because I'm not yet aware of anyone other than me with a Mastodon account who is \(A \cap B\) where \(A = {a : \) lives works or otherwise finds themselves in or near Milton Keynes} and \(B = {b : \) wants to talk about maths with other people}.

Boxing Day sport is a ‘thing’ in @steamjam’s family; in mine we prefer another day of lolling on the sofa. We escaped to see Cogenhoe United (“The Cooks”) v Wellingborough Town (“The Doughboys”). A 1-1 thriller. Attendance of 149! Local bonus points if you know how to pronounce Cogenhoe.

Another place not far from ‘home’ that I’d never really visited before. Red kites floated past, probably on the hunt for turkey scraps.

We finished the exciting expedition at Rushden Historical Transport Society at their excellent members’ bar, in the old station ladies’ waiting room. It’s recognised in the Good Beer Guide for the quality of the it serves đŸș

Visiting my old manor and venturing to places I haven’t been before. We wandered along the banks of the at Chester Farm, the site of a Roman town. I wonder if the Romans would have seen great white egrets there like we did today? They probably wouldn’t have seen a peregrine, spotted by @steamjam (who sees peregrines everywhere he goes), and certainly not one perching atop a pylon.

A festive visit to Canons Ashby. The decorations are inspired by John Dryden's King Arthur poem. Dryden used to live here.

During renovations on a church, workmen discovered a mummified heart hidden in a niche in a pillar. Some felt the heart had belonged to a spectral monk seen kneeling at the altar & possibly even photographed. Others claimed it had sat in the chest of a crusading knight or a heretical & badly behaved vicar. It's a great ghost story for . My article: mysteriousuniverse.org/2022/12

From May 2020. During lockdown the local was able to recover and normalise. This wood in near our old home is green and lush. Cow Parsley is growing under the trees and the light is filtered through the leaves. The path is clear and inviting. Afterwards when people returned to walk and picnic or play here it became less pleasant with litter and some destruction to the undergrowth and branches

A ford across a county lane in taken in September 2021. The framing of the scene by trees and the hedgerow along with the blue, almost cloudless sky and the gentle reflections on the water make for a peaceful scene. That calm would soon be broken when our dog Brodie jumped into the water. Labradors love water and our boy is no exception.

Researched: Aldershot's Stanley Harrison. Enlisted into Northamptonshire Regiment early 1919 at the age of 14 for Boy service. Went to India (Rawalpindi) with 2nd Battalion later that year but was soon returned. Discharged on grounds of mental instability in April 1920.

Another photograph from the time of the pandemic. This stretch of the in was across the road from where we lived. At a time when we were allowed an hour of daily exercise this was my well trod path.
