Fishing boats, often based in east coast Scottish ports, land their catches here at the fish market built in 1988. The fish are then transported to destinations across the UK and Europe. Until 1984 the crossing of the loch at Kylesku was accomplished by ferry: or by a 100 mile detour inland via Lairg. Then the stunningly beautiful Kylesku Bridge upened to traffic. It's been called Europe's smallest castle and is actually a concrete folly built in a Brutalist style that blends surprisingly well into its rocky shoreside setting. We catch the ferry south-west from Stornoway across The Minch to Ullapool in Wester Ross, on the north side of Loch Broom and sheltered by it. A lovely view from the village of #Drumbeg in the Scottish Highlands. We took the Drumbeg Loop (B869) to get here after crossing the Kylesku Bridge. I've never held on to the holy crap handle so tight. That stretch of road is not for the faint of heart! Glad there was no oncoming traffic on the the scariest part of the road. I could see it being a nightmarish drive in the summer months.

If I remember correctly, this is #Loch a' Chàirn Bhàin in #Sutherland, #Scotland as seen from the north end of the Kylesku bridge. And yes, I copied-and-pasted the name of the loch straight from Google. Beautiful scenery, huh? Would love to do the North Coast 500 drive again someday. We did it in 2016. Been a while.
