When Cyprus entered the EU it held a referendum on the re-unification. Nothern Cyprus voted 'yes' and Southern Cyprus 'no'. The greek politicians encouraged to vote 'no' promising a better deal or at least all the EU money only for themselves. EU was rightly furious on this cheating and decided to hand the money directly to the Nothern Cyprus government.

@livho AFAIK only #Turkey recognizes #NortherCyprus's government.

Pretty shure that - omif any of it holds true - this was because a program.was for the entire Island of #Cyprus.

Similar to how the #EU doesn't recognize #Transnistria...
