Feeling harried.
This is a northern harrier. I took this photograph a couple months ago at Holly Beach, Louisiana on the Gulf of Mexico.
This isn't a great photo, especially cropped as far in as is this one. But you can get a pretty look at the bird even if it doesn't have the detail and texture a better photo would show.
"The Northern Harrier is distinctive from a long distance away: a slim, long-tailed hawk gliding low over a marsh or grassland, holding its wings in a V-shape and sporting a white patch at the base of its tail. Up close it has an owlish face that helps it hear mice and voles beneath the vegetation. Each gray-and-white male may mate with several females, which are larger and brown. These unusual raptors have a broad distribution across North America." - allaboutbirds.org

@Swede1952 I have a nesting pair of Northern Harriers on my farm. I do what I can to protect their habitat. They are ground nesting so large areas if land need to be put aside. Here's a pic of one that was following me around in my walnut orchard.

This bird was at Holly Beach, Louisiana on the Gulf of Mexico. It was very far away, I used cropping to get an up-close view, so the photo is lacking some detail.

Saw four harriers hunting in this field today. They were looping above the trail over and over again. Must have been lots of good snacks out today with the few hours of sun we got. At one point 2 of them were just sitting on the ground hanging out. Couldn’t tell if they got anything or not. The lighting was a little tough since I was shooting into the sun for a lot of it but I think this one turned out cool. #birds #BirdPhotography #NorthernHarrier

Usually, northern harriers are pretty elusive & they fly so fast! This one was a younger one, so it hadn't learned that yet.😜 It sat on a tree, allowing my BF & I to take numerous photos, along with another photographer.
