Fellow #dmv #nova #NorthernVirginia #washingtondc residents, what sources do y'all use to find upcoming interesting events (also what other hashtags are helpful for the area)? I'm in Reston, VA. Mostly interested in events within an hour drive or (ideally) public transit from here. I don't have social media other than this, but my wife has facebook if we really need that, but would prefer websites, email newsletters, rss, or fediverse accounts.

I was hoping that moving a few states northward would result in less heat and humidity. It did not. #NorthernVirginia / #dmv seem to be almost as bad as Alabama on that front.

Biked to a combination bike shop, coffee shop, and brewery this morning. There's another business just like it within biking distance of us that we also went to recently. All with barely even getting on to any roads shared with cars. I know locals don't necessarily view #DMV or #NorthernVirginia as especially #bike friendly, but being from further south, the options for avoiding car use is mindblowing here. Not even to mention the metro, which let's me walk a few minutes, then be in DC in under an hour for $2 on the weekends. Loving the area so far.

They're calling for snow in #Seattle tomorrow. How will they handle it?

In #NorthernVirginia, the rare snow was often preceded by a layer of ice, making roads treacherous. Everyone ignored warnings to stay home, and made a bigger mess.

In #Colorado, "the sun'll clear it" meant some roads rarely saw/needed a plow. (in Steamboat, they just packed it down!)

In (rural) #Pennsylvania, many had their own plow attachments and proudly did it themselves.

What about your area?

I don't remember the last time I had real #Afghan food, but I know the next time we go back to #NorthernVirginia, we'll be going back to Panjshir.
