Der tropische Wirbelsturm „Noru“ habe sich „schlagartig verstärkt“ und inzwischen eine maximale andauernde Windgeschwindigkeit von 185 km/h.
Der Sturm sollte voraussichtlich am Nachmittag oder Abend (Ortszeit) die Küste erreichen – rund 80 Kilometer nordöstlich der Hauptstadt #Manila. Dann könnte er nach Angaben des Wetterdienstes bis zu 205 km/h stark werden.

#Typhoon #Noru was in the process of becoming one of the fastest-intensifying cyclones in modern Earth history, strengthening far more than expected while heading toward the #Philippines. Noru’s peak 1-minute wind strength, as gauged by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), increased from 45 knots (medium tropical-storm strength) at 2 p.m. EDT Friday to 135 knots (top end of the category 4 range) at 2 p.m. EDT Saturday.

A suddenly dire situation has developed in the Northwest Pacific, where what was a #TropicalStorm just a day earlier has explosively intensified into #SuperTyphoon #Noru less than 18 hours before landfall.
