We had a visit from an Australia Magpie the other day. There's a family of at least 6 that live around here, and it's great to see them up close.

I've previously mentioned their liquid, burbly song, so different to the song of any other bird around. Truly awesome birds!

I think this one was looking up toward the gum trees on the hill behind the house - they often fly up there, maybe that's their roost...

I can hear some Australian Magpies outside just now. They've got the most beautiful, liquid song. Intelligent beasties they are, too. And territorial, as anyone who's been dive bombed by one will know!

One came to visit me in the garden the other day. I'm torn between trying to make friends with the Magpie family that lives nearby, and leaving them to just get on with being their own selves...
