Last weekend was the famous Notting Hill Carnival, in London.
I wasn't there this year, but I was there in 1976, when I took this photo.
The carnival first became a major festival event in 1975, but from 1976 (and for several years afterwards) was beset by spontaneous rioting. This gave going along to it a slightly edgy vibe, although everyone I met seemed to be having a friendly and cheerful time.

I just want to say that pretty much all of the suggestions I get pushed at me for articles about #NottingHillCarnival are mostly all negative.

They're about the small number of issues around carnival and not about the huge and positive coming together of people in a joyous party.

It's algorithmic racism.

Conspiracyland on the right is going nuts over #nottinghillcarnival (essentially claiming it's a scene of the "invasion" of the UK) and claiming #lucyletby is innocent.

And they wonder why their "freedom movement" is viewed as politically isolated weirdos with national numbers of around 500, who rely on said movement for a social life.

I haven't done that recently, have really let that slide. And I have a lot of random film. Ortho 80, Santa Rae 1000, some random chrome 500 I picked up at the Photographer's Gallery, a load of Ektachrome 64 from the 80s, hell I don't know. SHOOT IT ALL.

A #photograph from 2014 for today's #FensterFreitag when we took the train up to #London to experience the #NottingHillCarnival for ourselves. My wife wasn't fond of the crowds and noise, and was paranoid about thefts because of all the camera equipment I had on me, but I had a whale of a time, mingling, snapping all the people, soaking up the atmosphere.

If you can find out what the hell is happening at the #NottingHillCarnival this weekend from their site/socials/app you're a lot smarter than I am. Handy details like "where are things" and "when are they happening" oh noooo nobody needs to know that.

The app is particularly bad - requires registration and login (thanks Apple for the anonymous login option) and then tells you nothing at all and half the pages are broken.
