Well, it looks like #CUPE and the Ford government have agreed to a tentative deal at almost literally the last minute.

From the preliminary reports, I think they gave up too much, but it's still got to go to the union for ratification so we'll see how the rank and file feel about it.

The thing that really angers me, over and above the godawful Bill 28/ including the #NotwithstandingClause is the way that the provincial government spent taxpayer money demonizing educational workers in order to undermine public support.

All workers and unions need to take note of the dirty tricks, and start organizing now, not just when the next crisis point is forced by Ford and his cronies to try and undercut worker's rights.

On November 10th we caught a glimpse of how powerful #labour can be and how much Ford fears it; imagine how much we could accomplish in this province if workers made a habit of pulling together.

Using the notwithstanding clause to shield it also means unions can't properly advocate and negotiate the best conditions for the workers they rep—in this case, civil servants.

It has been an intense few days!

Our team did a great job arguing the racism of Bill 21.

As have the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) & many other allies.

This law = second-class citizenship

The battle isn't over.

Bill 21 also disproportionately affects women who have the right to dress as they with to express their faith.

since it pertains to matters of religion.

It's hard not to note that #Ford government is saying they will repeal the #notwithstandingclause "at earliest opportunity" but expects CUPE to act immediately. I say, they stop when the bill is revoked, not at some unknown future date. Don't trust #Lecce to follow through.

Have to admit not really sure why the Ontario government felt it had to go to the #OLRB for the #cupeontario strike. They've already made the strike illegal with that jackass #notwithstandingclause , so what's a ruling from the OLRB gonna do further? Or, if OLRB decides in favour of CUPE, does that make any difference?
