One more book recommendation: “Sea of Tranquility” by Emily St. John Mandel. Another outstanding read… sci-fi/time travel, but really a story about finding purpose and dealing with loneliness. A different vibe from Scalzi’s book, but another excellent (and quick!) read.

John Scalzi’s (@scalzi ) latest short story is an absolute masterpiece. Sci-fi with an unusually philosophical bent.
Bonus: if you’re not a heavy reader, it’s only 25 pages or so, and free if you have Prime.
All in all, a pretty outstanding way to spend 30 minutes of your time.

These were great. I did expect pretty much all of them to be sci-fi stories, but they were mixed. Some sci-fi, some fantasy, some tense, but most were "heartstring pullers". I think I need something more uplifting next. #books #NowReading #NowReading2023

I am a fan of Naomi Novik’s Scholomance series so I decided to go back to one of her acclaimed older fantasy books for my trip to Vancouver listened to most of it on the planes to and fro. A lot to like about this book. Bookwyrm comment: https://bookwyrm.social/user/chadkoh/comment/918039#anchor-918039
Since I am terrible at reading on moving vehicles, and I wanted something light to doze to, I got Naomi Novik’s “Uprooted” to listen to in the plane to YVR. #NowReading2023
I am at Podcast Inbox Zero! Picked up the audiobook of “Two Cheers for Anarchism” by James C Scott to listen to for the next couple of days.

In following up my upasaka training last year, I am moving on to studying "The Island : An Anthology of the Buddha's Teachings on Nibbana" by Ajahn Pasanno & Ajahn Amaro. I will be reading this with a group of upâsika graduates from previous years at Birken monastery.
On a cold winter day I am curled up with a blanket, hot chocolate, and some satsumas reading the second book in the Brigitte Sharp series, THE TEMPUS PROJECT, by @antonyjohnston
The other book I am bringing into this new year is the popular fantasy novel "City of Stairs" by Robert Jackson Bennet. It is a bit of a slow burn, but things really started picking up at the halfway point. It is the first of a trilogy.
Let’s get started with what I am currently reading, and bringing into this new year:
“Invisible Cities” by Italo Calvino. I am about halfway through and I *think* I see what is going on… 😅
🧵
This is where I will be tracking the books I am reading this year. I would love to hear your thoughts as I post each book — no spoilers! 🙃
I have featured the #NowReading2023 hashtag on my profile. (Maybe I will figure out a more native #fedi way of doing this, but until then I will stick to this pattern)
