@SJohnRoss I agree, but also wince at the memory of all the players I've had to "retrain" because other #gamemasters taught them to rely on #NPCs for faultless exposition.

Good article though I never use quotes for my NPCs or characters. tried this a long time ago and I find them to be totally unhandy at the table. They never contributed to anything at the table and even for prep I like to use the other key points more.

Games worlds with NPCs can make a paradigm shift with AI help.

- The actual way in which game characters respond to player actions hasn't really changed since the 1980s, for that matter; their dialogue is in response to a set trigger in the game world, or to a selection in a conversation tree.

- LLMs offer the potential to finally overcome this core limitation of game world immersivity. Just the potential, mind, because let's not pretend that it's anything like as simple as hooking up your NPCs' dialogue boxes to ChatGPT and taking an early lunch.

1. Einmal einen Text lesen reicht nicht um ihn zusammengefasst einen Tag später wiederzugeben.
2. Große #Minis nicht auf Ständer für kleine Minis stellen. Die fallen nur runter und gehen kaputt.
3. Sich nicht drüber ärgern, wenn einem hinterher einfällt was für coole Dinge man die #NPCs machen lassen wollte. Zeitpunkt ist vorbei und der dazugehörige PC war eh nicht da.
