''In conclusion, spread from returning #travelers resulted in #community #transmission of the emergent #Delta #VOC in British Columbia beginning in mid-to-late March 2021. However, growth of #COVID19 cases in the initial 3 months after Delta was detected was likely restrained because additional #NPIs were implemented soon after variant introduction,...''

“The #RoyalSociety report, called #Covid19: examining the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical interventions, reviewed the evidence gathered during the pandemic for six groups of #NPIs and their effectiveness in reducing transmission.
These included #masks and face coverings, #SocialDistancing and #lockdowns, #test, #trace and #isolate, #TravelRestrictions and controls across international borders, environmental controls, and communications.” https://mastodon.social/@mackayim2022/110958561601925696

''Border #control #measures played an important role in former elimination locations but only when coupled with strong domestic public health measures. In future outbreaks, if border control measures are to be adopted, they should be seen as part of a broader strategy that includes other #NPIs.''
“It found evidence that each of these measures — which are called "non-pharmaceutical interventions" #NPIs — were effective, albeit to varying degrees, when looked at individually. However, the evidence in favor of using these tools was stronger when countries combined several measures.”
“Dr. @KindrachukJason reviewed the results of a number of studies that show #FaceMasks are associated with a significant reduction in transmission risk per contact and reduced infections. Dr. Kindrachuk’s opinion was that #NPIs are “extremely effective in reducing the spread of #SARSCoV2 in a population, especially when used in combination, and are indeed necessary to limit exponential spread”.
“So, I actually think that it’s very easy to look at our own lived experience in those two waves and see very clearly the impact that non-pharmaceutical interventions had, and I think we can also compare our own experience to neighbouring jurisdictions to be able to see the outcomes that were different based on when #NPIs were introduced and to what degree.”
''The #publichealth focus has now moved away from using #NPIs that could effectively reduce the #circulation of #SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory agents in the population. In Europe only minimal NPIs are typically used in higher risk settings, such as health-care facilities, where rates of nosocomial transmission of SARS-CoV-2 remain high.''

''#COVID-19-related control measures are not on any public health agenda in #Europe at this time. #Governments should, however, carefully consider which #NPIs to relinquish and when.''

Huh, CO2 monitor barely going above 635ppm when I ride the bus here in #Ōtautahi.
And the air feels ten times less stuffy and stifling than the buses back in #Pōneke.
What is this magic, what could it be??
Windows that open! Well I never! 🤯 😱 🌬

I am working with someone to create #zines. Topics include #masking / #masks, #vaccines, #covid, #viruses and the immune system, #aerosolscience and other #NPIs one that's just a glossary of terms, organizations and or resources and basic #pandemic info. I may post updates if anyone here is interested.

Because of a lack of #research on #NPIs, we still can’t answer important questions like: which government measures had the greatest and the least impact? How did the sequencing and timing of these NPIs affect their effectiveness? Which measures caused more harm than benefit? We need answers to these questions so we can prepare for the next #pandemic, armed with better knowledge.”

For the umpteenth time: of course we "can't stay in lockdown forever".
We should have USED the time we bought through lockdowns/traffic light/mask mandates to improve #IAQ in hospitals, schools, public transport and other high-risk essential service areas, via ventilation, air filtration and if possible upper-room #UVGI.
No sensible person wants to "go back". We should be going forward. It's 2023, we should have decent #NPIs in place.
