"#Permaculture Institute of North America recently submitted two letters commenting on policy and how to implement recent legislation, one to the Bureau of Land Management (#BLM) and another to the Natural Resource Conservation Service (#NRCS). We asked for your thoughts & incorporated these ideas into the NRCS letter on behalf of all Members & Diplomates.
Thanks to everyone who responded to our survey and helped #PINA use our collective voice to bring permaculture and permaculture designers into the mainstream of North America’s response to today’s pressing problems."

The #Southwest continues to grapple with a record-setting winter according to latest from #USDA #NRCS. While healthy #snowpack doesn't translate directly into #drought relief (a lot depends on the #weather in the coming weeks), it certainly helps! Snow water equivalent recently hit all-time highs in #Utah and in California's southern and central Sierra. The northern Sierra, meanwhile, is close to the 1982-83 record.

The latest #snowpack map from #USDA #NRCS continues to bring good news, with most basins, including the #ColoradoRiver, at or above the long-term median. But, as always, the story is a little more complicated than that. Heavy snow in CA can lead to devastating #flooding. The CO #watersheds draining into the Arkansas, White, and Red Rivers are still dry. And #drought conditions have persisted in the #pnw where soil moisture, streamflow, and reservoir levels remain low despite a healthy snowpack.

As we approach the official start of spring, #snowpack across the #West continues to look strong, according to the #USDA #NRCS. Much of California, Nevada, and Utah are sitting around 200% of normal for this time of year. Most of the Northwest is right at the long-term median.

Another snowy weekend has boosted #snowpack even more across the #West, according to the latest from the #USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Conditions improved in the #Northwest especially, and for the first time this winter, #watersheds across #Oregon are all at or above their long-term average.

#Snowpack continues to look strong across the West according to the #USDA #NRCS, with most watersheds close to or above their long-term average. Conditions improved in several states just in the past few days thanks to recent storms like #WinterStormOlive. Those impacts should show up in next week's #Drought Monitor.

Check out the current #snowpack (left) compared to this time last year (right) from #USDA #NRCS. Across most of the #West, conditions are looking much better, especially in #California and the #GreatBasin. Many watersheds are close to, or above, the long-term average.

#Snowpack across the #West continues to look mostly strong, especially in #California and the #GreatBasin, according to the latest from #USDA #NRCS. The Upper Pecos and Upper Canadian in New Mexico are at only about three-quarters of their long-term average but the neighboring Upper Rio Grande is looking good. Meanwhile, the Northern Oregon Coast is still struggling.
