I just learned the taser cop in Cooma is named Kristian White.
Itโs like high school drama students are writing the worst cop they can, and stretching credibility a bit too far.
โFifty years since his highwire act above Sydney, Philippe Petit reveals 'stupid' police interventionโ
#PhilippePetit is lucky #NSWpolice didnโt have tasers in 1973
"Bugger it" is most certainly *not* the state of mind a cop should be in when firing a taser at someone, let alone a 95 year old. I'm honestly less concerned with the individual cop than I am with what he signifies for the rest of them.
What are the chances that I'm going to end up interacting with a "bugger it" cop? Assuming the bad cops are washed out before they're actually on the force and those who do make it are well trained, that chance should be so close to zero as to make no difference and an event like this would never have taken place.
Since it *did* take place, we can *not* make that assumption. In fact, I think we have to assume that any cop we meet *will* be in a "bugger it" mood and treat them as if they could fly off the handle and murder us at any moment.

95 year old tasered
โNegotiations commenced with Clare to essentially drop the knife. For whatever reason, Clare did not do that,โ Assistant Commissioner Peter Cotter said on Friday. Cotter told reporters Nowland had been moving โat a slow paceโ with a walking frame.
โNowland had been moving โat a slow paceโ with a walking frameโ - WTF, and she needed to be tasered by these big strong police officers - ๐๐ฉ
You'd have to question the training of NSW #police that a senior cuntstable with 12 years experience would find it okay in his tiny little mind to #Taser a 95 year old woman approaching him slowly using a walking frame and #armed with a steak #knife
#ClareKnowland might weight 50kgs dripping wet and it's believed she has dementia.
Seriously in what universe does this even make sense? It makes more sense every time someone says all cops are cvnts.
Please boost the shit out of this.

Grandalf@aus.social - [Clare Nowland, 95, was home in Yallambee Lodge in Cooma when staff called NSW Police to the facility on Wednesday.
Ms Nowland, who has lived at the aged care facility for more than five years, was believed to have been carrying a knife when officers tasered her.
She was taken to Cooma Base Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.]
I know we shouldn't comment until all of the facts are known, but I'm having a hard time understanding why ANY Police officer would ever, EVER have to use a taser on a 95-year old woman. With or without a knife.
The Police shouldn't have even been called! STAFF should have been able to deescalate that situation without breaking a sweat. Disarm her, sit her down with a nice cuppa, record the incident in the daybook. Done.
Hell, I could do it and I'm a 64-year old who's 65 kg wringing wet!

So a dozen pious protesters did some kind of pray-in (like a sit-in, but with less shouting/more meditation) at the main Sydney building of #NAB (one of Australia's 'Big Four' banks). They were trying to get a meeting with the CEO or relevant executive to discuss NAB's ongoing financing of #coal expansion in Australia.
After a bit, #NSWpolice warned them they were trespassing and told them to go. They kept praying/chanting. So one by one they were extracted from the foyer and ejected onto the pavement outside.
Apparently, there have been a whole bunch of protests this week targeting NAB's #coal financing (including even the awful #WhitehavenCoal). Few of them have got much/any media and it looked like this action was similar. I can see social media posts, but didn't notice any coverage in mainstream Oz press.
Anyway, here's my question: is this kind of thing effective? A waste of time? Does it actually change corporate decisions or public discourse? Is it misdirected? Inspired? Should these greenie god-botherers be making a whip and overturning the tables of the moneylenders?
