Hi fellow #histodons! Since I’m moving towards mastodon I thought I’d introduce myself properly.
I’m a cultural historian of music and books, with a particular focus on the relationships between music, worship, and identities in times of upheaval.
My current Marie Skłodowska-Curie project investigates how musical saints’ cults connected Lutherans and Catholics despite the rupture of the #Reformation.
Other research areas include #MusicPrinting, #MusicalBookHistory, #BookHistory, #CounterReformation #Ecumenicism, #CulturalHeritage, the musical lives of #Beguines, and … #CallTheMidwife (#nuntastic).
Looking forward to connecting with other @bookhistodons, @histodons, @bookstodon!

The latest volume of The Year’s Work in #Medievalism—a whopping double issue—has been published, including my #nuntastic piece on "Sister Warriors: Medievalism and Tropes of Women’s Empowerment in Netflix’s 'Warrior Nun'".
See me get to use the term "nunsploitation" in an academic paper!
The physical version of the #nuntastic "Brides of Christ: Women and monasticism in #medieval and early modern Ireland" exists! It is available in book stores from next week and for pre-order now on the Four Courts Press website: https://www.fourcourtspress.ie/books/2022/brides-of-christ/
Thanks to the editors Martin, Tracy, Bronach and Colmán for their work in overseeing all aspects of its production!

Out next month from @fourcourtspress, and available for pre-order now: the #nuntastic "Brides of Christ: Women and monasticism in #medieval and early modern Ireland."
"Whether as practitioners or as patrons, women found creative and dynamic ways to pursue their calling as ‘Brides of Christ’ between the fifth and the seventeenth centuries, often in the face of tremendous difficulties and challenges. Their lives of prayer and service are sometimes hard to glimpse but the combined interdisciplinary perspectives of these essays brings them into sharper focus."
This afternoon's big task: tackling the proofs of my piece, "Putting Women in Order", which will appear in the #nuntastic volume "Brides of Christ: Women and monasticism in medieval and early modern Ireland" later this year with Four Courts Press.
Unlike the habit, the story of nuns and convents in Ireland is not black and white. It’s far more complex than that. https://irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/04/17/overlooking-nuns-contribution-to-ireland-erases-women-from-our-history-yet-again/

Revisited the astonishing passage for #Quasimodo Sunday in #nuntastic prayerbook @dombib_hi Ms. J 27 ("ora, plora, pone digitum in vulnera") & asked ChatGBT to rewrite it as spiritual. What do you think, @CariGluchowski @malu_schilling @seatofwisdomopn?

Off to @StMarysIffley for 2:30pm for welcoming visitors (& hiding some eggs…). Great day for showing people round the church, #nuntastic anchorage & huge yew tree. Sneak preview here (I was allowed to explain the zodiac signs on the Norman door)

Might be possible by putting together print snippets of glued-in maidens in Hanover and @bodleianlibs prayerbooks to identify the publication this came from! #nuntastic excitement. (HV2 p. 163, O1 fol. 141v, sigla http://medingen.seh.ox.ac.uk/index.php/manuscripts/)

Editing photo haul of #nuntastic mss from the Ratsbücherei Lüneburg for use by @malu_schilling & @CariGluchowski & arriving at #PalmSunday instruction: meditate on the donkey! (& yes, I was struggling with the unruly parchment!). NB: not in @HSCensus!
Janet Burton & I are delighted to have our book launch for our edited collection held at the medieval parish church of All Saints, North Street in York.
