Next round of RCN nurses strikes will be for 48hrs, 1st-3rd March 2023, this time we are calling all our members out on strike, no derogations. The government have continued to refuse to talk to us, so we have been left no choice:

Day two of the RCN 2nd nurses strike, it was freezing and snowing but it didn’t stop the nurses and support workers attending the picket line at James Cook hospital and the Friarge. Huge public support throughout the 12 hrs picket, back again 6th and 7th February if the government don’t resolve this and pay nurses fairly

Well done USA, (nurses have won a 19% pay rise)!

Great article, Erik, and I gather TA stands for 'Tentaive Agreement?' Thank you for sharing this. 🙏

Sunak has just said he’s grateful for the Friarage hospital in his constituency for the care they’ve given his family, so will he come and listen to the striking nurses there next week on 18th,19th January, hear their experiences or will he try to sack them for striking ,hmmm🤔

I’ve been busy this week working with the RCN strike committee for South Tees NHS trust in preparing for next Wednesday (18/1) and Thursday (19/1) nurses strike days. We will be picketing outside James Cook hospital Middlesborough and the Friarage Hospital Northallerton ( which is our PM Sunaks constituency). Please show your support on the day, picket lines will be held throughout England

I’ve been left with no hope that Sunak will help our NHS after listening to his interview this am with Laura Kuenssberg. He is so far removed and is even disputing NHS figures and that there is a crisis. He needs to visit a few hospitals and spend that day shadowing nurses and paramedics, away from the cameras rather than just doing publicity photos. I feel in despair for the future of our health care services!

@PoliticalPuffin Currently NHS workers have below inflation wage increases ( so pay cuts). They have expensive car parking charges ( it’s not free to park to go to work), petrol costs, uniform laundry costs, nurses have to pay £120 a year to the NMC ( nurses governing body) just to remain a registrant so that they can nurse. Pension contributions also rocketed this year so many had to leave their nhs pension.

@PoliticalPuffin If the government pay the NHS staff a decent wage in the first place and improve their terms and conditions, then that would actually save money . Staff would stay, less would go off sick with stress so less money would be spent on the high agency fees.
The UK government insists nurses pay is decided by an ‘independent’ body, but at the same time hints nurses may get paid more in next year’s pay round. How does that work? #NHS #NursesPay #Tories #Strikes #StrikingNurses #NHSstrikes

I note a very considerable amount of support being shown to nurses outside the JR today. The public appear to be behind them. #strike #nursespay #oxford #fairpay

The UK government is willing to talk to striking nurses about conditions of service, but not about pay. OK then. The conditions of service and 13 hour shifts are due to shortage of nurses. The shortage of nurses is due to them leaving faster than they are recruited. They are leaving because of low pay. Talking about conditions is pointless if you don’t talk about what is causing those conditions. #NHS #NursesPay #Tories #Strikes #StrikingNurses #NHSstrikes

Ministers’ refusal to negotiate with striking union leaders on pay goes against the Government’s own official advice on resolving industrial disputes.
They seem to have no idea how out-of-touch they look and how obvious it is that they are causing damage by this refusal to negotiate
