@grpress one thing I've noticed about #michigan is that people say "in the 1800s" to refer to #pioneer culture and wooden shacks... (Michigan was woods for most of the 1800s, it wasn't a state until 1837, and #upNorth / #nwmi wasn't really settled until after the #civilWar. The first train came to #Petoskey in 1873 ). My opinion: if you refer to the #19thCentury you should use a specific #decade, not a whole #century... #inThe1800s #history #americanhistory https://bird.makeup/users/grpress/statuses/1630999856717201430

Here are the "date of last #freeze" for #nwmi... So basically, wait until at least #May to plant anything outside... (And this is why #northernMichigan doesn't have #fireflies or poisonous #snakes https://www.weather.gov/apx/template_news_frostfreezespring #gardening #zone4a

Speaking of cold weather... Ever wondered how cold it gets in different parts of #michigan ? Here's the USDA Hardiness Zone map...Look how most of #Detroit and #GrandRapids are the warmest ( #Zone6a ) , and how the lake temperatures keep the left coast almost as warm up to #nwmi & the #straits of #mackinac. As you go north and inland you get down to #zone4a . these zones inform date of last frost and what plants survive the winter https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d1/Michigan_Hardiness_Zone_Map.webp/530px-Michigan_Hardiness_Zone_Map.webp.png #puremichigan #grmi #kzoo #swmi #miwx

Looks like #nwmi got around 5 or 6 inches ... #Petoskey #tcmi #michigan #miwx #snowstorm #lakeeffect #puremichigan https://bots.krohsnest.com/@iembot_apx/109914690727596152

Here's an interesting experiment... You can find out what different instances are showing for the same hashtag... For #nwmi for example, I can compare my instance ( https://dmv.community/tags/rva ) to a big one like mastodon dot social ( https://mastodon.social/tags/nwmi ) or a small one ( http://greatlakes.community/tags/nwmi... Or more generally, any Masto server = " your . instanceURL / tags / nwmi" ... I would be interested if you see any differences. Also feel free to boost. My hypothesis is that different servers are showing different results for the same hashtag. Try it with your server to observe real differences in what is visible. Please comment with any interesting differences you find.
I've got 3 more forged bronze leaf pendants done and finally listed in my Etsy shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/KSkilesStudio. I've got six days off coming up so it's a great time for a commission. Contact email is in my profile. I can also sell via paypal, venmo, cash app, or even mailed checks.

98% sure the Mastodon game along the Grand Traverse and Little Traverse bay tourist villages is going to be WEAK unless the great diaspora brings the #nwmi community together from afar. I'm going to follow and boost the voices that can promote understanding of the Tip of the Mitt region!
#intro I grew up in #nwmi and went to University of Michigan ( #GoBlue ) and then after college moved away just like almost everyone in my high school graduating class. Now I'm what they call a #fudgie --i come back every summer to visit and buy fudge and tee shirts. I am always shocked at how "small town" it is. I will pretty much follow anyone who visits and/or lives in #nwmi
