Obsession with NY #Pizza Suprema continues. It's rare that you find a slice of old school #NYC that you never noticed before.
This joint is 1 of just 2 businesses on a mostly-dead block of 8th Ave. The other is a cannabis shop
Pictured here are the Fig, with prosciutto and basil, and the Upside Down, sauce on top of cheese. Crusts are perfectly engineered.
You'd have no idea this place only sold plain slices 1964-1988. The dining room is a blast from the past, too!

I've been wanting to try Lions & Tigers & Squares, a NewYorkified take on #Detroitpizza where pies about the size of a 4-square at Buddy's are mass produced then reheated to order.
I had a slice (two squares) with whole green olives & garlic cloves. Sturdy enough for dinner. Great sauce & blend of Wisconsin brick & pecorino.
The Achilles' heel was the outer crust. In Detroit & NEPA styles, it should be fried to a crisp. It was, but got soggy in the pan, waiting for a reheat.

I can't believe "Ghetto Gastro: Black Power Kitchen" didn't make the New York Times best cookbooks of the year. It's both a meaningful cultural tome as well as recipes across the gamut of (ghetto-fabulous) vegetarian, vegan, to fish and sparing meat. Rich culture-centric.
Easily the most INTERESTING food-related book of the year, I'll tell you that, for sure.

@magicalwoodlands This speaks to me. We were in NYC a few weeks ago and had so many magical moments eating in small candlelit restaurants that were warm and cozy on a busy street.
