With their consent, I had entered the rider’s credit card information—data that is often easy to buy from criminal marketplaces, or which might be trivial for an abusive partner to obtain—and punched that into the MTA site for OMNY, the subway’s contactless payments system. After a few seconds, the site churned out the rider’s travel history for the past 7 days, no other verification required.

The news presents a significant privacy risk from a feature that is supposedly designed for individuals to check their own travel history, but which in reality is wide open to abuse."

The MTA just published their August 2023 map, and I just pushed updates for both iOS and Android to the App Store and Google Play. The new map removes labels from various avenues and areas around NYC. It certainly looks cleaner. Yesterday I made the mistake of avoiding the rain by taking the #NYCSubway instead of #bikeNYC. With my bike, because I needed work done at a shop far from home.

Going was ok. But the trip home, I entered a station that looked fine. Found I had to get to my F line by going down extra stairs, down a crowded platform, and up. Once up, I was on the R platform going the wrong way. There was no indication how to get to the other platform. Back down. Saw my F was not stopping at that station. 1/2

People often ask me why I prefer the #MBTA to the #MTA. Here’s why: Just the #NYCSubway alone is a challenge to access for wheelchair users, and that’s not counting the #MetroNR or the #LIRR. Only about 25 percent of the Subway is #accessible to people with mobility challenges because about 75 percent of it can only be accessed by stairs. Why does the MTA's app show different estimates from our app?

The MTA's internal data feeds are different from the feeds that we get from them. Also the MTA's feed is accurate with an error margin of 2 minutes.

To fetch the latest data in our app, use the pull-to-refresh gesture (or the refresh button on the main map screen on iOS).

Our app attempts to load the latest data when opening the app. You can turn off auto-refresh in the Settings.
