Wow. Huge study! This one is very important to read - and there are some journals that have distilled the info for those who don’t read the studies.
I hope it gets picked up by MSM.

As of Friday 18th (cases for 17th), the 7 day trend drop in reported new cases since Monday 14th’s cases: 18%.
So with such rapid change in #NZcovid numbers, likely from changing reporting rates, I am going to hold off reporting trends until there is more data on the post-removal of isolation landscape.

Ooh another media article.

A fairly good piece but given that four of us around a dining table in a large open plan living area sends the co2 meter up above 1500, I’d question the classroom stats.
But good on Farah for writing about covid still.

So what are the chances that if I go to the shops today, somone will tell me that I don’t need to wear a mask?
I’m guessing it’s very high.

“We support layered protections as part of a mitigation strategy to protect the health and wellbeing of people within Aotearoa; which includes masks, social distancing, and ventilation and air filtration.”
Seems the only party with a covid policy (and therefore a long term economic policy) is Green.
Seems they don’t want people dying/disabled by strokes , heart attacks, kidney disease, diabetes…
Unlike other parties who are actively encouraging everyone to share the misery.

I do wonder about these politicians unmasked. Seems rather silly. Shows me they don’t read Nature. Or BMJ. Or The Lancet….

@curiouskiwi yes! Among others.
A year ago I read up on #sequelae and prognosis from the #SARS and MERS survivors.
Eye opening. This is called #SARSCovid19 for a reason. #NZCovid

How many millions of dollars do you think you’d need in the bank if you got long covid and were unable to work for…the rest of your life?
Seems HCWs are okay diagnosing things as long covid currently here. But I know from overseas many stopped as there are just Too Many Symptoms. And the insurance companies have stopped paying for it.
I’m going to be proudly masking tomorrow. Just like always.
It’s an act of rebellion.

So 40% of covid cases in the UK are caught in hospital by people that went for something other than covid. That’s why places like Scotland wanted masks back.
So why exactly is NZ ditching masking in hospitals? It’s not to protect the HCWs. Or the population. It makes no economic sense. It makes no sense if you are a HCW given the high likelihood of catching covid in the workplace. In fact, I’m not sure how much I’d trust a HCW who decided not to mask.
I cannot be the only person who knows someone who has been disabled by covid. And others who just aren’t the same since they caught it- but not registered now as disabled. Or who know children who are regularly ill and absent from school due to yet another bug. Or who have extended family in hospital for a week due to strep!
I cannot be the only one, surely?

Do people not mask because they don’t know the science, or because they are scared to not follow the crowd? Too expensive? Or something else?
If a government campaign explaining the science happened, would people pay attention?

I was just reading this news from the UK.
25% more claimants for disability allowance since April 19. A ‘huge rise in the number of people economically inactive during Covid’ and ‘a number of indicators seem to suggest that population health is getting worse.’
Our future?

For #NZcovid
-rise in cases clearly slowing (last Friday 7 regions had seen high growth- very brown) this week 3.
- hospitalisations, which had grown in the wake of cases, also look to be slowing.
- last 3 months all cause mortality below pre-covid years, but the statsNZ open data API is broken so no new graph there.
Wastewater very high for the last 6 months in Masterton and Taupo.
Likely further slowing of growth. Peak most likely in next 2 weeks.
Hey NZ peeps, what is our variant mix looking like currently - do we have much #Eris #eris here?

#NZcovid:
Cases up this week from all time low (since nationwide covid) last week.
Hospitalisations up (also from low base)
Recent all cause mortality below all pre-covid years.
I am expecting the rate of case increase to slow next week.
Just been reading about #Covid19 behaving like a prion disease - and the work being done with the links with Parkinson’s, Alzheimers and CJD.
Yea - I mask.
